Coffee With A Cop

The Elk Grove Police Department is renewing the “Coffee with a Cop” program this week………It is a chance for you to sit down and ask questions of a police officer in what should be a stress free situation as opposed to the encounters one usually has with an officer….It is happening this week----Wednesday, February 11th, from 7am to 9am at two locations----It’s a Grind at 9385 Elk Grove Blvd and 9620 Bruceville Road.

 

Elk Grove United Tryouts

The Elk Grove United Soccer Club has added a couple more tryouts for young soccer players…….Tomorrow at Monterey Trail High School they’ll be holding tryouts for both boys and girls-------Boys U8-U11 will be trying out from 830am to 10am------Girls U8-U11 are in the 10:30am to 12 noon……Club officials want you to arrive 30 minutes before the start to check in and don’t wear any attire associated with a soccer club…….You need to bring cleats, shin guards, a ball, and water…..The best thing to do is to register in advance at www.elkgroveunited.com

Nina's Coming To Elk Grove

There could be as many as 300 jobs coming to Elk Grove soon……Nina’s Mexican Food Products is moving into a vacant industrial building at 10115 Iron Rock Way and hope to be operating by mid-spring…….Nina’s is a branch of Ole Mexican Foods based out of Atlanta---they bought the building last year for more than $6 million………The plan is to have about 150 employees for the first phase before expanding the workforce….They will be producing tortillas, chips, wraps, tostadas and other flour products.

Point Pleasant UMC Rummage Sale

The Point Pleasant United Methodist Church is holding a rummage sale this Friday and Saturday February 1st and 2nd starting at 9am both days……….Church members have been busy for months collecting and sorting all kinds of items---books, toys, furniture, and clothing and more…….Point Pleasant United Methodist Church is located south of Franklin High School in a remote area so to make things easier the rummage sale is being held at the Elk Grove United Methodist Church at 8986 Elk Grove Blvd……If you need more information called PPUMC at 684-2033.

Budget Town Hall Forum

Tonight is the first of three nights for Elk Grove residents to learn about how the city puts together a budge---how decisions are made on where to spend money---and where you think that money should go……..Tonight at 7pm there will be a budget town hall forum in the Activity Room of the Camden Springs Retirement Community at 8476 Sheldon Road…….There will be another forum tomorrow in the City Council Chambers beginning at 6pm----------and the third and final meeting will be a week from tonight-----February 10th—at the Wackford Community and Aquatic Complex at 9014 Bruceville Road

 

Pot Grow Arrest Made

Elk Grove Police have made an arrest in connection with a house fire last week near Laguna Creek High School…….66 year old Zhang Xi Hu was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail have being arrest on marijuana cultivation and sales charges…….More than 100 marijuana plants were found in the house on the 6700 block of Springridge Way after firefighters put out the flames last Thursday……..Two other people were detained but so far Hu is the only person arrested.

Soccer Complex Plans For Elk Grove

The Elk Grove City Council has approved a plan to build a soccer complex just outside city limits……..The proposal includes a 9,000 seat stadium that could be expanded to accommodate even more people should Major League Soccer be interested-----  it also includes 12 soccer fields and a multi-use facility both of which would be ideal for luring youth soccer teams to Elk Grove for tournaments………The vote this week was to annex the land and the application is in the final process-------the financing proposals will be discussed over the next three months……..The issue will be brought up again for discussion at next week’s council meeting.
