Elk Grove Baseball Ranked 32nd

Baseball season has begun and for Elk Grove High School it begins with a lofty national ranking---The Thundering Herd is ranked 32nd in Max Preps Top 100  pre-season poll…..Last year Elk Grove finished as the
Sac-Joaquin Section Division I North runner up and while they lost outfielder Derek Hill (drafted in the first round by the Detroit Tigers) they return multiple stars from the 2014 squad…….Nick Madrigal (headed to Oregon State next year) his brother Ty, Carlos Mosely, and Dylan Carlson are among the returnees for the team that won 26 games……Elk Grove lost to Bay Area powerhouse Valley Christian on Saturday----they play three of the Fresno area’s best this week in non-conference games
 

Sac Joaquin Section Semi Finals Wednesday Night

The CIF Sac Joaquin Section basketball playoffs continue this week at Sleep Train Arena and once again the Elk Grove Unified School District will be well represented…….In Division I #4 seed Pleasant Grove meets #1 Folsom Wednesday at 7:30pm-------also in Division I #2 Sheldon goes up against #3 Woodcreek in the 5:30pm game……..In Division II #4 Cosumnes Oaks takes on top seed Sacramento at 9pm with the winner facing the winner of the 4pm game between #2 Modesto Christian and #3 St Mary’s of Stockton………The section championship games will be played Saturday night at Sleep Train Arena.

Sac-Joaquin Section Playoff Results

Not a bad night---4-2--- for Elk Grove teams in first round action on the Sac Joaquin Section boys basketball playoffs……..In Division I Sheldon beat Turlock 89-54 so the Huskies move on to play Oak Ridge Friday night----Pleasant Grove beat Tracy 74-47 and the Eagles move on to play Kennedy which beat Monterey Trail 65-58-----and Franklin was surprised by River City 62-53….In Division II Cosumnes Oaks defeated Bethel 85-51 to set up a second round game against Beyer----and Elk Grove upsets Whitney 47-45 to set up a second round game against Modesto Christian……All second round games will be played Friday night.

CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs Tonight

Tonight is opening night of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section boys basketball playoffs and six Elk Grove area teams are in action…….In Division I Sheldon High hosts Turlock-----Franklin hosts River City------Pleasant Grove will be at home against Tracy----and Monterey Trail plays at Kennedy…….In Division II Cosumnes Oaks hosts Bethel while Elk Grove plays at Whitney………Winners will play again in round two Friday night.

CSD Building Fire

Still no word on what caused the fire on February 20th that caused serious damage to the Cosumnes Community Services District administration building……..No one was hurt but the early damage estimate is between $3 and $5 million dollars for the 94 year old building………CSD records were remarkably spared----they were in a room that wasn’t touched by the fire---Their offices can’t be used for now though and neither can the classrooms used by the pre-school program……Nothing has been ruled out yet---including arson---as the investigation continues.

Alcohol Beverage Control Training In Elk Grove

The Elk Grove Police Department is inviting  business owners (with an ABC license) and their employees to attend a free seminar presented by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Elk Grove United Tryouts

It’s a big weekend for soccer tryouts with the Elk Grove United Soccer Club………Boys U12-U14 are trying out from 8:30 to 10am both Saturday, February 21st and Sunday February 22nd at Cosumnes River College----Girls U12-U14 get their turn from 10:30am to 12noon and there will be one more try out for both next Saturday, February 28th at the same times ……You should arrive a half hour before ---bring cleats, shin guards, ball, water and not wear gear affiliated with any soccer club…….if you have any questions email president@elkgroveunited.com
