C.O.Advances---Sheldon/PG Out

The Cosumnes Oaks High School boys basketball team was the only Elk Grove Unified School District squad to advance over the weekend in the CIF Northern California Championship……..The Wolf Pack’s 56-49 win over Montgomery of Santa Rosa Saturday night advances them to the second round on Tuesday where they‘ll play Archbishop Mitty in San Jose……..The weekend wasn’t as good for Sheldon-----The Huskies season coming to an end with a 79-74 loss to Berkeley Saturday night……..Pleasant Grove is also done for the year after the Eagles 76-62 defeat at the hands of San Ramon Valley.

 

Franklin High Students Honored

About a dozen Franklin High School students are being honored next week for their work in a student video documentary competition……A C-SPAN representative will be on campus next Thursday, March 19th, to make the presentation…..This is the 22nd year of the competition----in all 150 students and more than 50 teachers will be receiving more than $100,000 in prizes----if you’d like to see some of the winning videos go to www.studentcam.org

 

PG Advances In Nor Cal Tournament

The Pleasant Grove Eagles have advanced in the Northern California CIF high school boys basketball tournament with a 71-62 win last night over Fremont of Oakland……..Marquese Chriss led the way for PG with 23 points and several blocks as the Eagles improve their record to 22-9………Next up for Pleasant Grove will be San Ramon Valley in Danville-----The Eagles will play there Saturday night at 6pm.

2 New TB Cases In Elk Grove

Two more cases of tuberculosis have been confirmed in the Elk Grove Unified School District--------one at Franklin High School and another at Franklin Elementary School……The two infected students are related and apparently contracted TB from another family member in the house….Earlier this year another student at Florin High School was diagnosed with TB and at that time more than 100 other students there were tested------16 were found to be infected but they were carrying the latent non-contagious form of tuberculosis and were given antibiotics…….Similar testing will be conducted on a couple hundred students at both Franklin High and Franklin Elementary nexty week.  

Nor Cal Basketball Tournament Begins This Week

The Northern California High School basketball championships get underway this week and once again schools in the Elk Grove area are well represented……..In Boys Division I Sheldon high is the number two seed and starts off with a bye-------Pleasant Grove is the #6 seed and will open at home Wednesday night against Fremont of Oakland……..In Boys Division II play Cosumnes Oaks will open on the road-------the #6 seed Wolf Pack travel to Santa Rosa to take on Montgomery High School Saturday night.

Sac Joaquin Title Games Set

A rough night last night for Elk Grove schools in the CIF Sac Joaquin Section boys basketball playoffs last night-----two of the three teams beaten………In Division I #2 Sheldon was the only winner out of the EGUSD as the Huskies knocked off #3 Woodcreek 62-55…….#4 Pleasant Grove wasn’t as fortunate-----the Eagles were beaten by top seed Folsom 71-54…..It means Sheldon vs Folsom Saturday  night for the D-I title……..In Division II play Cosumnes Oaks ran into a force-----#1 Sacramento an 82-55 winner over the Wolf Pack……Sacramento will play #2 Modesto Christian for the D-II championship Saturday…….The season isn’t over for any of the teams though-----all three local squads have qualified for next weeks’ Northern California Championship Tournament.   

Elk Grove Mortgage Fraud Case

A 9th defendant has been sentenced in the mortgage fraud case out of the Elk Grove headquarters of Liberty Real Estate and Investment Company and Liberty Mortgage Company…….48 year old Dana Faulkner was sentenced to one year in prison for conspiring to commit mail fraud and make false statements on loan applications……The process began with the conviction of the principal operator and owner of both companies back in January 2013.
