Week of the Teacher

Students in the Elk Grove Unified School District have been performing well for some time now---the test scores have been good but even more important if you spend time on just about any campus you’ll find mostly good kids……..The teachers have a lot to do with it and today’s the day students and their parents can take time out to thank them…..All this week---May 4th through May 8th is Teacher Appreciaton Week and it’s the perfect time to tell or show them how much you appreciate their effort.


Handing Out Hope

Elk Grove’s own Steve Abram’s is spearheading another terrific equipment drive through Handing Out HOPE… Over the past 8 years the Handing Out HOPE foundation has organized several baseball and softball equipment drives and has donated over 6,200 pieces of equipment….

Dutch Bros. Fundraiser

Dutch Bros. Coffee is doing its’ part to help raise money to fight Lou Gehrig’s Disease this Friday, May 1st…….”Drink on for Dane Day” is being held at 240 Dutch Bros. locations in seven states----it is held annually in honor of the company co-founder, Dane Boersma who was diagnosed with ALS in 2005 and died from it four years later ….Last year Dutch Bros. raised more than $350,000 for research and family services funding…..In Elk Grove Dutch Bros. is located at 8610 Elk Grove Blvd.


State Senator Dr Richard Pan On News10@9

The Elk Grove Unified School District is one of the largest in California is one of those most affected by sick students so a lot of attention is being paid to the effort in Sacramento requiring all school children to be vaccinated if they want to attend class…….This week the State Senate Education Committee voted 7-2 to move forward a bill that would eliminate religious and personal belief exemptions but  would still permit a medical exemption signed by a doctor……The next step is the Senate Judiciary Committee which will discuss the bill next Tuesday at 1:30……The author of the bill, State Senator Dr. Richard Pan, will be on News10@9 this morning to talk about the measure---tune in.

Sobriety Checkpoint Friday Night In Elk Grove

The Elk Grove Police Department will be conducting a Sobriety/Driver's License checkpoint on Friday, April 24, 2015 at an undisclosed location within the city limits between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m…….. The checkpoint will focus on removing impaired drivers, as well as unlicensed drivers from the roadways.  Educational materials covering the dangers of driving under the influence will also be handed out to motorists….The public is encouraged to call the Elk Grove Police Department at (916) 714-5111 (emergency line) or 911 if they observe a suspected impaired driver….Funding for the sobriety checkpoint is provided through a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Grant that was made available by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  For additional information, please contact Sergeant Dan Schnepple at (916) 478-8116.


Elk Grove Shooting

Elk Grove police are investigating an armed robbery and shooting just before 10:30 Tuesday night......A man was robbed and shot on Hume Court, north of Elk Grove Boulevard, near Highway 99......The man was shot in the upper body, and he was taken to the hospital----his condition is unknown.....Two  suspects took off running from the scene.....if you have any information - call Elk Grove police---- 478-8000

Mike Johnson Back With Franklin Football

Mike Johnson is back as head football coach at Franklin High School after what turned out to be a three month break from the job…..Johnson became the first coach for the Wildcats when he was hired back in 2002 and except for one year away---2008----he’s been on the sideline ever since……He’d announced he would step away from football for the 2015-2016 season and instead serve as coach for the Franklin girls basketball team and former UC Davis assistant Mark Johnson (no relation) took over but shortly after accepting the post he changed his mind…….The football position stayed vacant for close to three months before Mike Johnson reconsidered----now he will be both football and girls basketball coach at least for one year.
