Elk Grove police to hold DUI checkpoint Friday

ELK GROVE - The Elk Grove Police Department will conduct a Sobriety/Drivers License checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the city limits on Friday, July 15 from 8:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. The department is continuing its efforts at lowering the number of people killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes locally and through the county’s Avoid DUI Task Force Campaign with this DUI/Drivers License checkpoint.

Officers will be checking drivers to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as heightening awareness to the dangers of impaired driving. The summer months are a dangerous time of the year and your odds of being involved in an alcohol involved collision can be high.

CHP plans DUI enforcement July 4th weekend

With the Fourth of July holiday upon us, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) wants the three-day weekend to be a safe one for all motorists on the road.

"Celebrating our great country’s birthday with friends and family is a holiday tradition for many people," said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow. "Many Californians will be taking to the roadway and we encourage motorists to celebrate safely; designate a non-drinking driver, buckle up, minimize distractions and allow yourself plenty of time to get to your destination so that you don’t feel the need for speed on the highway."

The CHP will join travelers on the roadway this coming weekend; the Independence Day weekend is a Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) for the CHP. Officers will be on duty during the MEP, which begins at 6 p.m. Friday, July 1 and continues through 11:59 p.m.

West Stockton Blvd. road closure scheduled for June 26

West Stockton Blvd. road closure scheduled for June 26

ELK GROVE - In a press release Tuesday, the City of Elk Grove announced it will be closing West Stockton Boulevard between Laguna Springs Drive and north of Laguna Palms Way for road maintenance on Sunday, June 26. The one-day closure is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

As part of the city’s pavement management program, crews will be applying a pavement preservation treatment to extend the life of the asphalt. The application will prevent water from seeping under the pavement, which can rapidly deteriorate a road.

Drivers are urged to not park or drive on the road on Sunday until the project is complete.

Detours will be clearly marked. Message signs will alert motorists in advance of the road closure before work begins. Residents and businesses in the vicinity have been notified in writing.

For more information, call the City of Elk Grove Public Works Department at (916) 687-3005.
