CalVet to provide career, benefit workshops for veterans April 2

ELK GROVE - About 30,000 veterans are expected to leave military service and return to California this year. The California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) is committed to helping veterans transition from the battlefront to the home front.

CalVet will hold free workshops on Saturday, April 2 beginning at 10 a.m., designed to provide veterans with the necessary skills to assist in the transition from military duty to civilian life. The workshops will be held at 2216 Kausen Drive in Elk Grove, and will focus on job searching, resume building, interview skills and dressing for success. CalVet will also offer workshops to educate veterans about financial aid, scholarships and veteran benefits. The workshops are open to all veterans.

California is home to 2 million veterans, the largest veterans population in the United States, with this number expected to grow by 30,000 annually.

CSD offers new places to picnic

CSD offers new places to picnic

ELK GROVE - A picnic in the park is a great way to spend a sunny Spring day. In 2011, Cosumnes Community Services District (CSD) has expanded its picnic reservation program. Reservations are now being accepted for dates from March through October.

There are now seven additional picnic sites that can be reserved at Elk Grove Regional Park. With its ancient oaks, playground, swim center, dog park, and lush landscaping, the park is one of the region’s best spots for holding a family reunion, company picnic, birthday party, or picnic with friends. Spaces can accommodate groups from 25-500 people.

If you’re looking for a great spot on the west side of town, Morse Park now has a picnic area available to rent for parties of up to 200 people. This popular park site offers a shaded picnic pavilion area, a large BBQ grill, playground, dog park, and close proximity to the District’s largest water sprayground.

Rental costs vary per site.
