Friends of Sutter’s Fort proudly presents a family-friendly experience “The Haunted Fort”

Friends of Sutter’s Fort, in partnership with California State Parks and B Street Theatre Company, are proud to present “The Haunted Fort” on two Saturday evenings on October 20 & 27, 2018, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each night. With a family-friendly format, guests will have the special opportunity to explore the dimly-lit Fort at night at their own pace, interact with knowledgeable docents in period attire (who will share scary, spooky and sometimes disturbing details of pioneer life in the 1800s), participate in fun and interactive stations set-up throughout the Fort, and also be entertained by talented performers from B Street Theatre Company.

Delightful not frightful “Spookomotive” train rides to treat passengers all four weekends in October

Back by popular demand, California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum & Foundation will offer engaging and entertaining “Spookomotive” train rides in Old Sacramento every weekend in October. With VIP First Class train rides also available, “Spookomotive” trains depart hourly from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays on October 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 & 28, 2018.

The California Automobile Museum is proud and excited to present An Evening with Matt Farah on Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 6 to 9 p.m. Matt Farah is a widely known and respected filmmaker, exotic car enthusiast, and host of The Smoking Tire, a hugely popular automotive video review website and YouTube channel. Museum guests will enjoy listening to Farah talk about a wide range of topics ranging from speeding cars to the grind of making it big as a YouTube personality.

All aboard for story time with entertaining local musician Charles Hurley on Monday, July 16

It’s All Aboard for Story Time! with special guest Charles Hurley, a talented and entertaining local musician, on Monday, July 16, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the California State Railroad Museum. To the delight of train enthusiasts, young children and the young at heart, Charles will read the children’s book Bob the Railway Dog: The True Story of an Adventurous Dog written by Corinne Fenton and illustrated by Andrew McLean. In addition to reading the true story about the wandering Australian railroad dog, Charles plans to entertain the young Story Time! guests with a sing-a-long song or two. With a high energy style designed to get audiences excited and engaged, Charles is an accomplished and versatile musician who tours the country – often at fairs and festivals – performing with bands that include the Rock Bottom Boys and The Amazing Hamonatras.

Continuing a popular series of interactive and fun “Hands on History” activities happening on the third Saturday each month, Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park and Friends of Sutter’s Fort will present a special “Hands on History: War in California” event on Saturday, June 16, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Railroad Museum to dazzle & delight during “BIG weekend of small trains” on Father’s Day weekend

The California State Railroad Museum & Foundation have exciting plans to dazzle and delight visitors with a special “BIG Weekend of Small Trains” on Father’s Day weekend – Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17, 2018. 

 

This family-favorite small train extravaganza showcases a magical assortment of trains, hundreds of feet of track and an array of buildings and accessories. For the “BIG Weekend of Small Trains,” local organizations and devoted enthusiasts will set up shop in the Museum, filling the Roundhouse with delightful model and toy train layouts of every description while being surrounded by impressive full-scale locomotives. Visitors of all ages will marvel at the variety of locomotives that pull pretend passengers and scaled-down shipments through all kinds of scenery, whether modeled on real places or created in the imaginations of the collectors.
