Cool and beautify your home - naturally

Not only do trees beautify your home and neighborhood, they can help to dramatically reduce cooling costs during the hot summer months. Sacramento County residents are eligible for up to 10 free trees through the Sacramento Shade tree program, a partnership between Sacramento Tree Foundations and the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD). Businesses, parks and schools in the SMUD service area are also eligible for free SMUD shade trees.

Sacramento Shade customers can choose from over 30 deciduous trees (deciduous trees shed their leaves in the fall to allow the warm winter sun into your home). Along with trees, you will receive stakes, ties, and expert advice.

If you think your home, business school or park would benefit from shade trees, call the Sacramento Tree Foundation, at 916-924-TREE (8733). They will set up a visit from a Community Forester. That expert will consult with you about the best tree for your property, where to plant and how to care for them. Within 10 days of the visit, you will receive your trees. All you need to do is promise to plant the tree in the recommended location and care for the tree.
