Herald murder suspect speaks from behind bars

SACRAMENTO - Thirty-one-year-old Jerry King denied killing his uncle in a jailhouse interview at the Sacramento County Jail on Wednesday.

"I wish I could make it all better for me, my family, my uncle, find justice for him," said King.

King was arrested Tuesday for the murder of his uncle, 50 year -old Willis Griffin in Herald.

King claims he was in the house when his uncle was killed last Sunday afternoon.

"It was a gray Chevy truck that was pulling out of my driveway. I was asleep on the couch when I heard the gunshot. I got up and looked outside," said King.

Court documents indicate Sacramento County sheriff's investigators became suspicious of King's story because of their finding "the trajectory was inconsistent with a shot fired from the roadway."

Investigators also say they found a 7mm rifle hidden in a pile of branches near the home. King said he has a logical answer for that.

"I guess they said they found my fingerprints on the gun that had shot my uncle, which is his gun. My mom says that gun couldn't be in the house, only outside, because I am on probation, so I am not allowed to be around it.  So I don't want to get in trouble, and me and my uncle had been shooting the gun a few days before," said King.

King is expected to make his first court appearance Thursday at the Sacramento County courthouse at 1:30 p.m.
