Safety Town comes to Elk Grove in July

ELK GROVE - The Elk Grove Police Department is teaming up with the Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) to bring Safety Town to the Elk Grove community. Safety Town is a two-week comprehensive educational program that introduces 5-year olds to safety awareness. This program teaches children entering kindergarten in the fall basic safety awareness and accident prevention through hands-on learning activities.

This year, the two week program will be held at Ellen Feickert Elementary, starting on July 18. The registration fee for the program is $25 and enrollment is limited to 64 children.

Participants will attend 2½ hours a day for two weeks, Monday through Friday (July 18-29). Acceptance into the program will be on a first come, first served basis.

ELK GROVE - The Cosumnes Legacy Foundation will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, June 14 at 5 p.m. for the Elk Grove Regional Veterans Memorial in Elk Grove Regional Park.

Elk Grove Mayor Steven Detrick and Councilmembers will participatpe in the ceremony. The City of Elk Grove is contributing $25,000 to build the Veterans Memorial.

Caltrans thanks community; construction finished ahead of time

STOCKTON - In a press release Monday, the Department of Transportation (Caltrans) would like to thank the traveling public for their cooperation and consideration during the extreme maintenance activities completed during the full closure of State Route 12 (SR-12) from Interstate 5 in San Joaquin County to SR-160 in Sacramento County.

This complete road closure allowed maintenance crews to repair segments of SR-12 in three days as opposed to the 15 days with one-way traffic control and 90 minute delays it would have taken otherwise.

Cosumnes firefighters to host community blood drive June 17

ELK GROVE - The Cosumnes Firefighters Association will host a community blood drive in partnership with BloodSource on Friday, June 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cosumnes Fire Department Station 71, 8760 Elk Grove Boulevard.

Blood donors will receive a coupon for a free pint of Baskin-Robbins ice cream.

Cosumnes Fire Department collects 1,000 pairs of socks for homeless

ELK GROVE - The Cosumnes Firefighters Association through its annual Socks for the Homeless Drive has collected more than 1,000 pairs of socks for donation to the area’s homeless.

The Cosumnes Firefighters Association partnered with DQ Salon, Brick House Restaurant, Elk Grove Ford, Auto Body Expressions and Windsor Care and Rehabilitation Center on this year’s program.

The donations included 120 pairs of socks from Galt Girl Scouts.
