ELK GROVE - Teddy Herrera, a 24-year-old Elk Grove resident, will conclude his 11,000-mile bicycle trek on behalf of Across America for Childhood Obesity, at this year’s 8th Annual Nutrition Fuels Fitness event in Elk Grove on March 27 at 8 a.m. The Nutrition Fuels Fitness event is co-sponsored by Northern Area Dietetic Association and the Cosumnes Community Services District.

Herrera started his journey to raise awareness about childhood obesity on June 5, 2010 with $36 and no prior training. To date, he has logged 9,000 miles and normally rides about 75 to 100 miles a day. Herrera cycled from California, Denver, Chicago, Boston and New York from June through September and then headed south through the fall and winter months. On scheduled breaks Herrera speaks with children at local schools in the area promoting a healthy lifestyle.

The Nutrition Fuels Fitness event features a 5K and 10K fun run and a Free Family Fun Festival to celebrate National Nutrition Month. The event will take place from 7:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. on March 27 at the Elk Grove Regional Park. For more information and to register go to www.nutritionfuelsfitness.org.
