Lodi, CA adds 13th downtown tasting room

Wine tasting in downtown Lodi will soon have a little bit more sparkle to it.

Sparkling-wine maker Weibel Family Vineyards received approval from the Lodi Planning Commission to open a tasting room at 13 N. School St., adding to the list of wineries that have established a presence downtown.

Owner Fred Weibel said his family's winery has been operating in Lodi since 1996 but has never had a tasting room.

With the success of other wineries downtown since the city urged a trio of vintners to open the Cellar Door, Weibel said he feels it's time for his winery to establish a greater presence in Lodi.

"We're looking to be on the heart of School Street," Weibel said. "It's a great area with a lot of energy from the (weekly) farmers market."

Weibel said his winery sells a variety of sparkling wines, including flavored Champagnes such as almond and raspberry.

Weibel Family Vineyards will be the 13th downtown tasting room, which includes more than 20 wineries, City Manager Rad Bartlam said.
