The Center for Sacramento History (CSH) is excited to share a recently completed project: they have digitized 126 Sacramento Police Department (SPD) and Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office mug books and uploaded them to the Internet Archive.

Proudly sponsored by Sutter Health, the Midtown Farmers Market offers up to 90 farmer, grower and vendor booths bursting with fresh fruit, produce, and gourmet or locally made goods each week.  The year-round market takes place on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on 20th Street from J Street to Kayak Alley.*

Auto Museum connects Black History and the Automobile in June

During the month of June 2018, the California Automobile Museum plans to highlight the important connection between the automobile and black history, migration, and upward mobility along with how The Negro Motorist Green Book was instrumental in helping black Americans travel safely during a time of segregation in the south (1930s through the mid-1960s). Authored by New York City mailman Victor Hugo Green, the all-important Green Book was once a helpful guide to services, areas and places (e.g. restaurants, lodging, gas stations, etc.) friendly to African Americans during a time of racial discrimination.

Seven local “Blue Star Museums” offer free admission to military personnel and their families

Seven Sacramento area museums will participate in Blue Star Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense and more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families starting the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend (May 26) and continuing through Labor Day (September 3), 2018. The seven local museums participating in Blue Star Museums include the following: Aerospace Museum of California, California Automobile Museum, California Museum, Crocker Art Museum, Fairytale Town, Powerhouse Science Center and the Sacramento History Museum.

Midtown Association presents free outdoor movie nights on historic walls of Sutter’s Fort

In a continuing effort to increase activation, engagement and community use of the beautiful parks located throughout Midtown, the Midtown Association is proud to present a special summer series of Free Outdoor Movie Nights on 2nd Saturdays in June, July and August, 2018. Offered in partnership with California State Parks and Friends of Sutter’s Fort, and proudly presented by Sutter Health, the movies will start at approximately 8 p.m. on the historic walls of Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (on the west side) and the community is invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs to set up on the grassy area outside the Fort.

Join volunteers at the Historic City Cemetery’s Rose Garden for deadheading at dusk. We will be removing spent blooms from the many rosebushes and tidying up the garden which encourages repeat blooming of the roses in the garden. If you have buckets and tools, please bring them, otherwise tools and training will be provided. Light refreshments will be served. The workshop is free, but donations are gratefully accepted to help support rose garden operations. Monday, June 4, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. till dark.

Life Time Folsom names fitness veteran Steve Datte as General Manager

Datte and his team members deliver the full suite of Life Time programming and services for the two-story center spanning nearly 300,000 square feet and featuring an outdoor aquatic and tennis complex.

Life Time Folsom is located at 110 Healthy Way. There is also a Life Time facility in Roseville at 1435 East Roseville Parkway.

Datte has more than 30 years of experience in various aspects of the health and fitness industry. In previous roles he has created and written sales and operational protocols for all aspects of business operations. Datte has worked in all regions of the U.S. as well as Canada.
